EP11: Ten Things exist because of the body (Sariratthadhamma sutta)| Thanajayo Bhikkhu
This lecture taught by Thanajayo Bhikkhu for the newly ordained International Monk who ordained in the Monk Life Thailand Program in March 2022. There are 3 places in the Buddhist texts the Buddha mentions about things should be reflected often for both monk and lay people. Unlike other suttas, the objects of reflection shown in this Sarīraṭṭhadhamma sutta (AN 10.49) only focus on ten things that exist in human body.
“Bhikkhus, these ten things exist because of the body and should often be reflected.
(1) Cold, (2) heat,
(3) hunger, (4) thirst,
(5) excreting, (6) urinating,
(7) restraint of body, (8) restraint of speech,
(9) restraint in livelihood, and
(10) Dhamma that leads to future lives.
These ten things exist because of the body and should often be reflected”
Sarīraṭṭhadhamma sutta (AN 10.49)
Point of consideration from this sutta:
“How can one Lessens Dukkha through the reflection of one's own Nature of Life”
